1 Chr. 28:10-11 Charge to Solomon
1 SCOPE OF CONSECRATION (1-5a)
Purposed: Designated the house was for God, not man
1.Furthermore King David said to all the assembly: “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced; and the work is great, because the temple is not for man but for the LORD God.
Prepared: Designed to the best of his ability
2 Now for the house of my God I have prepared with all my might: gold for things to be made of gold, silver for things of silver, bronze for things of bronze, iron for things of iron, wood for things of wood, onyx stones, stones to be set, glistening stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble slabs in abundance.
Prioritized: David gave it his utmost attention
3 Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver:
Provided: Apart from other needs and expenses
4 three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses; 5 the gold for things of gold and the silver for things of silver, and for all kinds of work to be done by the hands of craftsmen.
From his own personal holdings, David provided 3.6 million oz of gold (3.6 billion dollars)
8.4 million silver ($160 million) .
In addtion to that, gold, silver, precious stones, lumber, and other materials and wealth given would run the total up to around $174 billion.
Most expensive house today:$128.25 million in London
Most expensive building: $1 billion, Ronald Reagan Building
2 SINCERITY OF CONSECRATION (5b)
Who then is willing to consecrate himself this day to the LORD?”
David led in sincerity to the Lord. If people see sincerity in a leader, they are more apt to follow. They shun empty, hollow promises, fakery,
It takes an ongoing effort to prove sincerity.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:1-2
I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
3 SUPPORT IN CONSECRATION (6-9)
6 Then the leaders of the fathers’ houses, leaders of the tribes of Israel, the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the officers over the king’s work, offered willingly. 7 They gave for the work of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. 8 And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, into the hand of Jehiel[b] the Gershonite. 9 Then the people rejoiced, for they had offered willingly, because with a loyal heart they had offered willingly to the LORD; and King David also rejoiced greatly.
Followed David’s example by pledging willingly whatever they had.
Gold: 6 million oz + another 45,500 oz
Silver: 12 million oz ($168,000,000)
Brass: 1.35 million lb
Iron: 7.5 million lbs or 3750 tons
All together, it is estimated that all the materials needed to build the Temple would total $174 billion!
Gave with a clear conscience and a heart consecrated to God.
The building was just a start. The real goal was building a kingdom for God.
